Updated: Mar 27, 2019

Women First (Milan) - 11 March 2019

To become a successful leader members of Leaders First learn and absorb from inspiring leaders, from their mistakes and their winning stories, shared at our regular events around the world.

On Monday March 11, Leaders First members and their guests had a privilege to hear from fantastic female leaders at Women First event in Milan.

In the chic setting of the boutique Hotel Milano Scala, an ambitious audience gathered to look into female leadership on a global scale and to meet inspiring women leaders. During the evening top Italian female founders and executives shared with the audience openly about career journeys, leadership and how to balance it all.

An introduction into the evening was a welcoming speech by our partner - American Chamber of Commerce in Italy. The MD Simone Crolla spoke on women in business and an importance on changing leadership stereotypes.

After that, Paola Profeta, an associate professor at Bocconi University, shared her valuable research on the performance women in management roles across industries, particularly  in Italy. Prof. Profeta concluded her studies with the powerful statement “Women’s empowerment is the unambiguous positive trend in the ambiguous economic scenario

Next speakers Paola Scarpa, Director of Client Solutions, Data & Insights for Google Italy, and Stefania Radoccia, Partner and Italian Law Leader of Studio Legale Tributario EY, were expertly interviewed by an award winning journalist Maria Silvia Sacchi (Corriere della Sera).

The conversation of two female executives took us into importance of making decision at different stages of life, balancing family responsibilities and professional development, barriers and what impact people in senior positions can make on future careers of emerging female leaders.

Changing stereotypes of a Chief Executive Officer, who is typically a man in his 50s or 60s, was the following speaker, Chiara Ercole, CEO Saclà Italy. Chiara represents modern leadership by being a young CEO and a young woman who leads a global team of an international organisation.

At any stage of a business development different challenges come up, and the next to discuss their own experiences as female entrepreneurs were - Giovanna Dossena, Chairman AVM Gestioni SGR S.p.A., and Michela Colli, a co-founder of TWT S.p.A. Speakers of this panel highlighted the importance of having diverse team when discussing the impact of women’s empowerment in a workplace.

What we learned from this event is that there is no success story that is exactly the same, there is no a single recipe to become a successful female leader.

During this inspiring evening we also discovered a powerful tool of femininity and soft-skills which can lead and encourage professional teams successfully.

And we were very grateful for our partner DEPLOY, luxury British brand founded by Bernice Pan, to share this inspiring evening with our guests, and showcase their SS19 collection of sustainable zero-waste fashion for smart women.
